The Music of The Pearl

The last line of the pearl shows how the pearl is laid to rest after all the misfortune and trouble it created. Being just an object it causes no good to come on Kino and his family because everyone is filled with greed and envy since Kino and his family might have a chance to live a better life so it unleashes these series of events. The pearl at first symbolized hope and opportunity for them so they can make things better for themselves but as the town hears that Kino and his family found it then the pearl becomes a symbol of evil and greed as everyone tries to get for themselves. Kino's people have lived in oppression for 400 yrs. by the Spanish and finding something as valuable as a pearl means not only that they have a chance to rise up from their oppression but it means they've found a fortune of a lifetime. After all this may be the one and only chance to change their life for the better so they (meaning the people of the village) will do anything in order to try to obtain the pearl so they can live better lives or use it for their own selfish desires.
